The Right Wing Press (aka FOXNews) is going crazy with the Kathryn Steinle story. For anybody who has been living in a cocoon:
Kathryn Steinle, a medical device saleswoman who loved travel and dance, is the newest symbol for those seeking stricter immigration enforcement. They point to her death, from a gun prosecutors say was fired by a Mexican man in the country illegally after five deportations, as heart-wrenching evidence of the need for tighter border controls.
The story is burning up conservative talk radio, with hosts and callers lamenting the senselessness of the seemingly random killing, expressing anger that Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez still was in the country and consternation that San Francisco authorities had rejected a request by federal immigration authorities to hold him until they could take him into custody.
Steinle, 32 of San Francisco, was gunned down July 1 while walking along a city pier with her father. After Sanchez, whom authorities have identified as 45-year-old Mexico native, was arrested it was revealed he had seven felony convictions related to drugs and repeated illegal entries into the country. It also became clear that the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, citing city policy on immigrants with no violent criminal background, released Sanchez in April despite a federal immigration request that they hold him until U.S. authorities could take him into custody for deportation proceedings.
Critics across the country have slammed San Francisco as a too-liberal “sanctuary” city that provides a haven for criminal immigrants. Some are calling for a “Kate Steinle’s Law” to enhance enforcement.
The story reached outrageous limits on Megyn Kelly’s Thursday night show, The Kelly File, which airs on FOXNews. The video and story are at the link below. First, a few excerpts:
When asked repeatedly this week to speak to this case, White House spokesman Josh Earnest declined to weigh in, other than to refer folk to the Department of Homeland Security,” Kelly said. “A stark contrast to what we saw after Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, a man we now know was attacking a police officer at the time of his death,”
His funeral saw three Obama officials in attendance,” she noted. “His death drew comments from President Obama personally, and the administration sent in the DoJ and 40 FBI agents dispatched to Missouri after Michael Brown was killed. Where is the swarm of agents in San Francisco?”
“Then there was Freddie Gray in Baltimore, a repeat drug offender who was killed in police custody. Here again his funeral was attended by three Obama administration officials, and again the president spoke personally to Freddie Gray’s death, and again sent the DoJ in to investigate.”
“When Trayvon Martin was killed in Florida, the president spoke to his death which as later ruled to be in self-defense,” Kelly noted. “But Kate Steinle?”
“Give an answer! You can’t!” she challenged liberal talk show host Richard Fowler. “There’s no excuse for it! He picks and chooses the victims he wants to highlight. And apparently, this victim wasn’t deemed worthy!”
Really??? The bloviating, blonde bimbo is comparing the death of Kathryn Steinle to those of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Freddie Gray? Black lives matter in the context of racism and White Privilege. White lives do not matter in the context of racism and White Privilege. Steinle’s death might matter in the context of gun control, but not in the manner in which her death is being exploited by the Conservative press. If Steinle was a lesbian or bisexual, or transgender person, then her death would matter in those contexts. If Steinle had been killed by an abusive boyfriend, a Christian extremist, or a white NFL football player, then her life would matter in those contexts. If a Confederate flag and pole had fallen on her, and crushed her to death, then her life would matter.
However, all the curent talk about Steinle, and “Kate’s Law”, is for the sole purpose of trying to derail the “Black Lives Matter” movement and replace it with their “White Lives Matter” narrative. This would start us down the slippery slope of non-racial analysis and could end up with Blacks being prosecuted for hate crimes, the same way that whites currently are. All distinctions of race and national origin would disappear into some fog never to return. Whole departments of Race Studies would disappear from college campuses. How then would Blacks and other minorities even know they were victims of discrimination without us enlightened whites there to tell them? That is obviously the absurd result that Conservatives seek.
Not to mention the ill effects that this will have on serious immigration debate. The proposed Kate’s Law would mandate that undocumented aliens who are deported and return to the United States would receive a mandatory five year sentence in a federal penitentiary upon conviction. Even if Kate’s Law were passed as only requiring undocumented workers who have violated some criminal statute to be automatically deported, and then imprisoned if they return, has anyone considered the large number of Hispanic persons who might be exiled back to their home country? And what that would do their families who remain in the United States?
We must not let ourselves be fooled into treating a white murder victim in the same manner we treat Black murder victims. If white lives matter, too, then everybody’s life is equally valuable, and there would be no reason to even say, Black lives matter. That would be the very essence of White Privilege!
Yours very truly,
Mick “Spin” Dumdell
