White Lives Don’t Matter! The Kate’s Law Subterfuge

By Mick Dumdell

This could be very bad for us. For Mexico, I mean.

The Right Wing Press (aka FOXNews) is going crazy with the Kathryn Steinle story. For anybody who has been living in a cocoon:

Kathryn Steinle, a medical device saleswoman who loved travel and dance, is the newest symbol for those seeking stricter immigration enforcement. They point to her death, from a gun prosecutors say was fired by a Mexican man in the country illegally after five deportations, as heart-wrenching evidence of the need for tighter border controls.

The story is burning up conservative talk radio, with hosts and callers lamenting the senselessness of the seemingly random killing, expressing anger that Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez still was in the country and consternation that San Francisco authorities had rejected a request by federal immigration authorities to hold him until they could take him into custody.

Steinle, 32 of San Francisco, was gunned down July 1 while walking along a city pier with her father. After Sanchez, whom authorities have identified as 45-year-old Mexico native, was arrested it was revealed he had seven felony convictions related to drugs and repeated illegal entries into the country. It also became clear that the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office, citing city policy on immigrants with no violent criminal background, released Sanchez in April despite a federal immigration request that they hold him until U.S. authorities could take him into custody for deportation proceedings.

Critics across the country have slammed San Francisco as a too-liberal “sanctuary” city that provides a haven for criminal immigrants. Some are calling for a “Kate Steinle’s Law” to enhance enforcement.

The story reached outrageous limits on Megyn Kelly’s  Thursday night show, The Kelly File, which airs on FOXNews. The video and story are at the link below. First, a few excerpts:

When asked repeatedly this week to speak to this case, White House spokesman Josh Earnest declined to weigh in, other than to refer folk to the Department of Homeland Security,” Kelly said. “A stark contrast to what we saw after Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, a man we now know was attacking a police officer at the time of his death,”

His funeral saw three Obama officials in attendance,” she noted. “His death drew comments from President Obama personally, and the administration sent in the DoJ and 40 FBI agents dispatched to Missouri after Michael Brown was killed. Where is the swarm of agents in San Francisco?”

“Then there was Freddie Gray in Baltimore, a repeat drug offender who was killed in police custody. Here again his funeral was attended by three Obama administration officials, and again the president spoke personally to Freddie Gray’s death, and again sent the DoJ in to investigate.”

“When Trayvon Martin was killed in Florida, the president spoke to his death which as later ruled to be in self-defense,” Kelly noted. “But Kate Steinle?”

“Give an answer! You can’t!” she challenged liberal talk show host Richard Fowler. “There’s no excuse for it! He picks and chooses the victims he wants to highlight. And apparently, this victim wasn’t deemed worthy!”

Really??? The bloviating, blonde bimbo is comparing the death of Kathryn Steinle to those of Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown, and Freddie Gray? Black lives matter in the context of racism and White Privilege. White lives do not matter in the context of racism and White Privilege. Steinle’s death might matter in the context of gun control, but not in the manner in which her death is being exploited by the Conservative press. If Steinle was a lesbian or bisexual, or transgender person, then her death would matter in those contexts. If Steinle had been killed by an abusive boyfriend, a Christian extremist, or a white NFL football player, then her life would matter in those contexts. If a Confederate flag and pole had fallen on her, and crushed her to death, then her life would matter.

However, all the curent talk about Steinle, and “Kate’s Law”,  is for the sole purpose of trying to derail the “Black Lives Matter” movement and replace it with their “White Lives Matter” narrative. This would start us down the slippery slope of non-racial analysis and could end up with Blacks being prosecuted for hate crimes, the same way that whites currently are.  All distinctions of race and national origin would disappear into some fog never to return.  Whole departments of Race Studies would disappear from college campuses. How then would Blacks and other minorities even know they were victims of discrimination without us enlightened whites there to tell them? That is obviously the absurd result that Conservatives seek.

Not to mention the ill effects that this will have on serious immigration debate.  The proposed Kate’s Law would mandate that undocumented aliens who are deported and return to the United States would receive a mandatory five year sentence in a federal penitentiary upon conviction. Even if Kate’s Law were passed as only requiring undocumented workers who have violated some criminal statute to be automatically deported,  and then imprisoned if they return, has anyone considered the large number of Hispanic persons who might be exiled back to their home country? And what that would do their families who remain in the United States?

We must not let ourselves be fooled into treating a white murder victim in the same manner we treat Black murder victims. If white lives matter, too,  then everybody’s life is equally valuable, and there would be no reason to even say, Black lives matter. That would be the very essence of White Privilege!

Yours very truly,

Mick “Spin” Dumdell

  1. Nick Spinelli says:

This is parody @ its best. This SF murder could be a game changer. However, we need someone other than the idiot Trump leading the charge.

  2. James Hale says:

YOU SAID… bloviating, blonde bimbo ….SEXIST

YOU SAID…Black lives matter in the context of racism and White Privilege. .when you used “WHITE”…in WHITE PRIVILEGE you are a racist. You are using these derogatory words towards a group of people as a put down…not a compliment. Therefore you are also a HATER.

YOU SAID…White lives do not matter in the context of racism and White Privilege….That is RACIST AND HATE WORDS. LOOK…All human lives matter. You are using the same logic used to kill the JEWS under Hitler..and kill Christians under Stalin as well as Blacks in the south. They are JUST JEWS…so we can kill them..because they are to blame for the mess we are in. STOP THE HATE PLEASE!!

YOU SAID…Steinle’s death might matter in the context of gun control,… All innocent lives matter. STOP THE HATE PLEASE.

YOU SAID…If Steinle had been killed by an abusive boyfriend, a Christian extremist, or a white NFL football player, then her life would matter in those contexts…..WAIT..and because she was killed by a NON-WHITE…her life had no meaning? It no longer matters? YOU NEED SOME HELP. STOP THE HATE!!!!

    • FWIW, I also think Mick Dumdell goes too far sometimes. But he is only expressing what many Liberals really feel about the situation. Why do you think the Democratic Left has not gotten as irate over the murder as the rest of us? Deep inside, they think the same way as Mick. Mr. Dumdell just has the courage, and a supportive website, to come right out and say it. Now, that it has been openly stated, it can be openly debated!

Thank you for expressing your opinion! I tend to agree with you.

  3. Skeptical says:

Yes, it gets at the heart of the problem.

If Obama had wanted to, he could have taken on San Francisco (pick the sanctuary city of your choice) at the same time he took on Arizona. But, of course, he wouldn’t. That would be thinking and acting outside his party’s kool-aid container, and something contrary to his beliefs. But sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants are symptomatic of a larger problem, the real problem, and that is identity politics. Identity politics divides, never unifies, and is contrary to the idea of national identity — and a nation can’t exist for long without a national identity. The idea behind identity politics is simple: pick a race, ethnicity, religion, or culture, find historical evidence of suffering at the hands of another, then sledgehammer the larger collective/establishment into shame and guilt until it says uncle. But keep sledgehammering and one day the U.S. will look more like Yugoslavia than the U.S. — a group of factions that hate one another while pretending to be one nation.

Trump is playing super hero right now. He’s voicing the anger of those shamed into silence, but his strategy is all wrong. It’s all about him. He’s creating more division, while failing to focus on the real danger. Meanwhile Hillary is spending her time promising gifts to identity groups within her party, without offering a theme of unity. But the democratic party is more a confederation of identity factions than a real party, and that is its weakness.

But to exploit that weakness republicans must find a candidate who can, in plain english, expose identity politics for the self-destructive idea it is while stressing the advantages of a national identity. But who is that republican?

I wonder if Patagonia is for sale and what Argentina and Chile would sell if for? 🙂

  4. Skeptical,

True. Identity politics is destructive. But it also wreaks emotional havoc on it’s practitioners. Mr. Dumdell wrote a poignant and heart-warming post a few days ago about his anguish at having to pick sides:

  5. Nick Spinelli says:

Obama is going to visit a Federal Prison in El Reno, OK. That is a max for younger offenders filled w/ testosterone. I worked @ Leavenworth. Although Leavenworth had some of the baddest in the world, they were older, veteran convicts. They knew how to do time and didn’t walk around w/ boners 24/7 like they do in EL Reno.

    • Perhaps he intends to let a lot of them out so they can terrorize their neighborhoods again. I can’t wait for the photos of thugs and murderers on a stage behind him, cheering his every word.
